Re-certified SAN, hybrid & tape

Refurbished Storage
Enterprise SANs & tape, re-certified — at a fraction of new.

The same tested, wiped, warranty-backed playbook that powers our refurbished servers — applied to storage. HPE MSA & Nimble, Dell PowerVault ME4/MD3 SANs and HPE StoreEver LTO tape: chosen for the platforms with real support runway left, configured to your workload, and typically around half the price of new.

~Half of new
lower capital outlay

Reseller-reported pricing puts like-for-like refurbished arrays around 50–60% below new list — and refurbished LTO drives far lower still. Directional figures; we quote against your spec.

EOL-aware
a real support runway

We lead with platforms that still have years left — HPE MSA Gen5 supportable to 2028, Dell PowerVault ME4 tracked to 2029 — not end-of-the-road kit.

Air-gapped
ransomware-resilient tape

A refurbished LTO library adds the offline, immutable copy that ransomware cannot reach — the cheapest cold tier and the backbone of a 3-2-1-1-0 strategy.

HPE + Dell
genuinely vendor-neutral

A 24-year partner to both, so our MSA-vs-PowerVault, array-vs-tape and new-vs-refurbished advice is objective — we have no axe to grind.

The support runway, platform by platform

The single most important question in a refurbished-storage purchase is how long the platform is supported. Here is where each family sits — the highlighted bar is the support runway still ahead of today.

EOSL dates are from HPE/Dell notices and third-party maintenance trackers (Park Place, eosl.date); HPE’s MSA Gen5 notice lists 31 July 2028 as End-of-Engineering-Support. Past-EOSL platforms remain viable under third-party maintenance with a spares pool. Confirm current supportability with Servnet before relying on it.

The value case

Around half the cost — fully re-certified

The headline saving is real, but it’s only worth having if the hardware is sound. Every array and library we ship goes through the same engineered process before it reaches you.

FAQs

Refurbished storage — common questions

What does Servnet refurbish on storage?

We supply re-certified HPE MSA and Nimble arrays, Dell PowerVault ME4 and MD3 SANs, and HPE StoreEver MSL tape libraries with LTO-8/9 drives. Every array is component-audited — controllers and failover, cache backup, every drive, PSUs, fans and host ports — surface-tested, securely wiped to the NIST 800-88 standard with a certificate of data destruction, firmware-baselined and burn-in tested before it ships under a Servnet warranty, configured to your specification on request.

How much cheaper is refurbished storage than new?

Reseller-reported savings for like-for-like specification are directionally around 50–60% below new list on arrays, and considerably more on LTO tape drives (commonly up to ~80%). These are indicative market figures rather than an independent benchmark — we will quote an exact saving against your configuration and current stock.

Is it safe to buy storage that is approaching end-of-life?

Yes, when you go in with eyes open — which is why we lead with the support runway. HPE MSA Gen5 is supportable to 2028 and Dell PowerVault ME4 is tracked to 2029, so there is genuine vendor-era life left. Beyond those dates, third-party maintenance (TPM) keeps arrays in service cost-effectively — Gartner has put TPM savings at up to 70% versus OEM support renewal (Gartner, 2017).

What happens to the previous owner’s data on the drives?

All storage media is erased to the NIST 800-88 standard with a certificate of data destruction, or physically destroyed on request. No prior-owner data survives our refurbishment process — this is an engineered, audited procedure, not simply a quick format.

Which platform should I choose?

For entry-to-midrange block storage, the HPE MSA (vast spares pool, bundled-data-services 2052) and Dell PowerVault ME4 (ADAPT RAID, longest runway) are both excellent — and we supply both, so the advice is neutral. Choose refurbished Nimble when you want premium data services and InfoSight at a midrange-down price, and refurbished StoreEver tape for an air-gapped, low-cost archive and ransomware-resilient retention. Tell us the workload and we’ll recommend.

Can you configure, install and support the array?

Yes. We populate drives, set RAID/ADAPT and pools, configure host connectivity (FC, iSCSI or SAS) and update firmware before shipping, and can advise on installation, replication and migration. As a 24-year channel partner we support mixed new-and-refurbished HPE and Dell estates under one UK point of contact.
