Does the configurator only offer period-correct parts?
Yes. A Gen9 box only shows Xeon E5-2600 v3/v4 CPUs and DDR4-2133/2400 memory; a Gen10 box shows Xeon Scalable, DDR4-2666/2933 and NVMe. Each chassis offers only the drive backplanes it actually supports — no anachronistic options.
