The Gen10 platform (2017) and Gen10 Plus (2020) are the value sweet spot. They run 1st, 2nd and 3rd-generation Intel Xeon Scalable or AMD EPYC, take DDR4 to 3TB+, support NVMe, and ship with iLO 5 — a remote-management generation that is still fully current. For the vast majority of virtualisation, file, database and line-of-business workloads, a refurbished Gen10 Plus is indistinguishable in service from a brand-new box.

For in-support generations you can layer HPE Pointnext where it adds value; for end-of-support-life Gen9 hardware, third-party maintenance (TPM) typically delivers the same or better SLA at a lower cost — and we’ll advise honestly on which route fits each box.

Are refurbished HPE ProLiant servers reliable enough for production?
Yes — enterprise servers are built for years of 24×7 duty, and a Gen10/Gen10 Plus coming off a three-year data-centre lease has plenty of service life left. Every unit is component-audited, has consumables checked, is burn-in tested and ships under warranty, so production use is entirely appropriate for the vast majority of workloads.
Which ProLiant generation should I buy refurbished?
Gen10 or Gen10 Plus for production — they balance modern performance (Xeon Scalable / EPYC, NVMe, iLO 5) with deep supply and remaining support life. Gen9 is fine for labs, DR and budget builds on third-party maintenance; Gen11 refurbished is available but still carries a price premium.
Does iLO work fully on a refurbished server?
Yes. iLO 5 on Gen10/Gen10 Plus is fully current. We update iLO firmware before dispatch, and where you need the full remote-console and virtual-media feature set we can arrange iLO Advanced licensing.
What warranty comes with a refurbished ProLiant?
A Servnet-backed hardware warranty as standard, with extension and third-party-maintenance options for end-of-support-life hardware. We size the warranty to how the box will be used — production, DR or lab.
Can you configure the server to my exact spec?
Yes — we populate processors, memory, storage, RAID and networking to your workload before the unit ships and is re-certified. Tell us the spec or the workload and we’ll build to it.
Is my data safe — what happens to the old drives?
Every storage device is erased to the NIST 800-88 standard with a certificate of data destruction, or physically destroyed on request. Nothing from a prior owner survives the refurbishment process.
